A Look Into History: U.S. Presidential Election of 1789

The race for president during 1789 was an interesting one. George Washington was the only candidate for office. Nobody dared to oppose him. Once they convinced him to return from retirement, it was a done deal.

So yeah everyone took time out of their busy day to vote for the 1 guy on the ballot.

Well the race for Vice President was far more contested. For example many founding fathers like George Clinton ran. He was the first governor of New York.

Even John Hancock signed up to be on the ballot.

However John Adams managed to best them all in the end to become the first Vice President.
