The first presidential debates to be televised on TV were in 1960 with Democratic candidate John F. Kennedy against then-Vice President and Republican Richard Nixon.

  2. Yes, and many say that Nixon lost partly because he wasn't as handsome as Kennedy, something that wouldn't have been as much of a factor before TV.

    Happy weekend!

  4. Something about it being in black and white makes it seem a little more interesting too.

  6. I've read that if you listened on radio, Nixon won. But on TV the charismatic Kennedy won. I don't know. I was only two. But...style over substance...?

  7. I started watching Mad men series a month ago ( I am nearly finishing by now) and it is very interesting how they deal with this kind of political facts : Nixon, the Kennedy´s, the racial issue in the sixties, the war...I love it. Kissses, Adam:)

  9. Nixon had heavy 5 o'clock shadow and refused to wear makeup for the broadcast, so he looked pale and shifty compared to the handsome Kennedy. That's what did him in.
