Fact of the Day: Olympic Swimming

Olympic swimming events opened for women competitors in 1912, however zero of those athletes were from the United States. Officials at the time did not approve of women competing in such attire. Medals were instead won by Australia (with help from New Zealand), Great Britain, Germany, and Austria.

  8. it's for the better, at least there was no USA back then to cheat on competitions and set up winners :) Serbia still hasn't forgotten how Phelps got his win at the Olympics set up for him even though our Milorad Cavic came to the winning line before him.

  16. Ha, "in such attire." I bet said attire was that huge, awkward one-piece bathing suit that covered their bodies from top to bottom, right? The one that might expose an elbow? Scandalous!

  21. Times have sure changed! The swim outfits women have to wear now would give those in the past a conniption.
