My Recent Visits to the Dentist

As I mentioned earlier I recently went to the dentist for the first time in a decade and found a lot of unfortunate surprises. I had teeth fillings in two visits, and besides a little nervousness about needles (been many years) it was fine. Unlike the metal ones (amalgam) I got when I was a teenager the news ones are called composites. They are the same color as your teeth and after the first few days you can't even tell you have them.

I was suppose to get a root canal and a crown but I later changed my mind. I first thought a crown was something made of metal but instead it's like a fake tooth that sits on the base on what's left of your real tooth. Since I was going to lose most of that tooth anyhow, I just got it pulled instead. Luckily it's far back enough not to be noticed and all my trips were painless.

  1. Glad it wasn't so bad for you. I think I need a crown on the back tooth, but I will end up just getting it pulled as well.

  2. Glad everything went well! I love the new composites too -- goodbye ugly metal fillings! I don't mind getting a small cavity in a tooth that's already been filled because then I can get rid of the old silver filling, yay!

  3. Eventually that empty space will cause you problems with bacteria so you might want to consider having it dealt with.

  4. Here, visit to a dentist is very expensive. So I do it everytime I am home in the Philippines.

  9. Dentist are not my favorite places to go. Sounds like you have a great one that knows how to treat his patients. I have been blessed with good teeth and only go for cleanings on a regular basis.

  14. Oh yes, dentistry has really improved. My brother and I used to call our dentist "The Butcher" when we were little.

  15. I think you made a mistake. It is always better to have a crown than to be without a tooth, because the gaping space will make the surrounding teeth lose their support over the years. Crown feels like a normal tooth and you do not even notice it

  16. Boy do you bring back memories. I also made the mistake of not going to the dentist for several years and paid the price. In the ensuing years, a cavity had started and to save the tooth root canal was required plus a crown. Yikes, not inexpensive. Now I go a regular basis for a check-up.

  17. Your first visit after a decade definitely paid off. It’s good to hear that it turned out just fine despite the nervousness you have for needles. Also, you got all the treatment your teeth needed. What a great day this was for you! And I hope every visit you have is as great as this experience.
