My Favorite Photos: Joy the Elephant

During our trip to the zoo we got to see Joy the elephant who's been there for decades. We got to see her on the last weekend she was at the zoo. Since the zoo is rather small and standards have change, Joy is going to a bigger zoo in Colorado.

Update: I just learned that Joy has passed away earlier today during her trip to Colorado. I had fears that in her old age that something like that would happen. Such a shame.

  3. That's wonderful that she's going to a bigger zoo. Perhaps she'll have more space.

  5. Joy's ears look more like an African elephant but I didn't think those were kept in captivity. Here in Oregon our elephants are all of the Asian variety.

  6. We know just how you feel. Honolulu Zoo has two long-term elephants recently granted enlarged quarters to keep them here. Sorry you will lose your friend, but join your good wishes for her!

  7. She's moving up in the world. That's great if it means she'll have more room to roam.

  10. Awe, that is so sad about Joy. Elephants are one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. I am glad many were able to enjoy her while she was here on Earth with us.

  13. poor Joy! We have a female elephant in my local ZOO too and she is older than me... she burried four or five husbands so far.... and is now a widow... it's sad watching her alone in her spot in the ZOO
