Fact of the Day: Idiot Andrew

Andrew Johnson was elected Vice President when Abraham Lincoln won his 2nd term in 1864. When he showed up for his inauguration, he became quite drunk. After a incoherent speech, he later could not carry out the ceremonial duties traditionally tasked for the Vice President.

  7. Not sure about this one. Evidence is mounting that Johnson was terribly sick on the day in question and his doctors prescribed some sort of liqueur that made him worse. Johnson was also a Southerner who remained loyal to the Union, the reason Lincoln selected him, and he's one of the few presidents to serve in Congress after being president of the United States. He was definitely a target for conservatives that wanted, and were successful, at turning the South over to the carpetbaggers.
