Netflix has a lot of their own original shows, and when I first noticed Knights of Sidonia last year I thought there was no way that Netflix would have their own original anime. Which is mostly true as it debuted in Japan, and they just got the exclusive version in English. Like most anime shows, it's based on a popular manga and seemed to have positive opinions.
Knights of Sidonia is set in the year 3394 where Earth had been destroyed. Humanity managed to survive by building giant space-ships capable of carrying societies in space. One such ship is known as Sidonia, and one day a young man named Nagate Tanikaze climbs out of the underground tunnels in the search of food. Knowing nobody else in the world except his now deceased grandfather, Sidonia's leaders surprisingly takes notice of him.
Tanikaze's grandfather trained him through virtual simulators to be a pilot for humanoid shaped warships. To everyone's shock he is chosen to be the pilot of the legendary Tsugumori ship. Despite some rather embarrassing moments, Nagate Tanikaze proves himself a skillful pilot and hero. Sidonia will need him as giant monsters known as Guana had destroyed Earth, and now they're after Sidonia.
Knights of Sidonia wasn't nearly as cool as I thought it would be. I thought the first couple of episodes were a little lame, as humanity seemed to do very little against the Guana monsters. It gets much better near the end which is good. I hear there will be probably be a second season, which I hope will fix all the faults of the first.
