Fact of the Day: Papal Saints

One of the Pope's powers is to name people who had died as saints. John Paul II had the most with him canonizing 483 people as saints.

  2. and he himself was as far away from saint as possible.... What a vile creature he was... supporting wars and turning a blind eye to killings.... he even sainted a Croatian cardinal who was a noted Nazi

      Just what Balkan history books do you read?
      The Polish Pope was a Polish patriot when the Nazis invaded.
      I think if memory serves me correctly John Paul ll had a lot to do with
      the breaking up of the Stalinist Russia and the removal of the Berlin Wall.
      I'd hardly classify that as being "vile".
