Fact of the Day: Rice at Weddings

A common wedding tradition for many years was to throw rice as the couple left the church/building, but in recent years this practice has stopped. Since then most people throw either bird seed or some other alternative because it is believed that rice would burst the stomachs of the birds who would eat the rice. Though this belief is merely an urban legend, rice is perfectly safe for birds to eat.

  1. I don't get the idea of throwing food about, ever. But some people look like they really enjoy it.

  2. I wonder if our friend Jax is having it at her wedding today :)
People still do it in my country and they also throw candy to the little poor gypsies who gather around the wedding hall

  3. Maybe the rice started sprouting and growing wild so they stopped it. :)
And, like Happy Whisk, throwing food away isn't a good thing anytime.
