Kentucky has had one of the most famous cases of county clerks denying marriage licenses to couples of the same gender citing that their religious views prevent them from doing so. Now Governor Steve Beshear has told them to basically to do their job or quit. The religious freedom is a weak argument for these county clerks, as the county clerk who helped me and Daisy get our license did not perform our wedding, our Unitarian-Universalist minister did. The county clerk just does the paper work so the government recognizes the marriage. When you work for the government, if you can't do your job because of religious belief, then it's time to resign.
