Fact of the Day: Siberia

While Russia is the largest country (by land mass) in the world, about 77% of its area is Siberia which is historically known for its cold and frozen lands. Though not nearly all of Siberia is frozen land, but only a little more than a quarter of Russia's population lives there.

  2. Not the nicest of areas on the planet - good for "Gulags" for the anti-Soviets in Lenin/Stalin days and really right up to the rise of Mikhail Gorbachev and the fall of the Wall and barriers. A most enlighted leader. One who faced reality.
You don't win the Nobel Peace Prize for growing Peanuts or Cotton!!

Above: If you mean Desmond - I think he is from the Balkans - which was also
    Soviet dominated until Gorbachev.
Some Yanks who have been awarded and some of these are questionable
include Theodore Roosevelt (1906), Woodrow Wilson (1919) - this one should have been rescinded for many reasons - Martin Luther King, Kissinger, Carter (a joke), Al Gore and for reasons beyond comprehension - Barack Obama! - Plus other Americans less known but probably more deserving.
If you look at the whole list since inception the only ones REALLY worthy of the award were non-politicans!
Gorbachev really is the only political leader who was worthy of the distinction.

    1. we were never really Soviet dominated, thank you very much... we were one of the leaders of the Non-Aligned Movement, which is one of the reasons we were always the target of both Western powers and Russia who always tried to use us for their own means ....
