Fact of the Day: Bull Red

A common thing at bull-fights is a bull charging at a red cape. Bulls and cows cannot see the color red, which means it literally cannot "enrage" them. It's the motion of the cape that makes the bull angry not the color of the cape.

  3. Yes Bull fighting is not for the faint hearted but I enjoyed my visits to the Plazas de Toros in Barcelona, San Sebastian and the big one in Madrid.
Went to Pamplona for the runnings of the bulls with a mate from Charlotte, NC but no accommodation left so stayed on the train.
Told at station that if we wanted to sleep in the trees we were welcome, but it might be uncomfortably dangerous - I guess Spaniards have a sense of humour???
Maybe just as well as in that year 8 people were trampled to death in the runnings on Day 1 !!!
Not that I had any intention of running but my Charlotte man was dead set on it.
The fiestas and events of these affairs are big attractions for tourists and the locals.
I have a giant poster of a bull fight promotion with my name above the legendary Manuel Benetez, El Cordobes!

  4. I have watched them on tv, but didn't want to see anyone hurt. This fact is interesting, however. Hugs...Ro

  5. I don't get bullfighting at all. My brother has been to a number in his travels and has told me all about the ceremony and pageantry; but I think I'll pass. I knew that bulls and cows can't see color; they've chased me no matter what color I've had on! Have a good one, Adam!

  6. I've heard already about that.
I think these fights are awful and don't understand people that like it.

  11. I've never really understood bull-fighting, but I understand it's a cultural thing. I've read The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway, and that book really resonated with me.
