Fact of the Day: Barbed Wire

Barbed wire was used constantly during World War I as it efficiently slowed movement of enemy forces, protected the men behind it, and was easily replaced when damaged. However when tanks rolled out in 1916, they had made the barbed wire defense far less useful as they could roll right through it. .

  1. creeps me up whenever I see it... and yet some Nazies are still using it... like Hungary who put it recently around their border.... I can't even tell you how many animals have died butchered trying to cross it... not to mention the humans who are faced with it..... we truly didn't move on much from the dark ages

    1. Oh God - the bloody stuff - barbed wire - here is used by the farming fraternity when doing fences for their properties - I have yet to note dead animals "butchered" in it.

Quite frankly the Hungarians have good long memories - so think again Dezmond. How many barbed wire fences went up when Yugoslavia was being
      carved up AFTER Tito??????????????
You do realise that Stalin, Hitler and Tojo are dead? However you forget they
have been replaced in other countries by blood thirsty dictators who are doing even more hideous crimes against their people - like Africa and the present Middle East situation?????
