Funny Story: Dishes Debate

My most hated chore is washing dishes, and when I was younger my mom made either me or my brother dry the dishes she washed. I always complained about it too. I asked her "why not just let it air-dry" and she complained saying something that didn't make sense to me at the time. Now when my mother does dishes, she does them in turns. She washes them and lets them air-dry...

  1. Perhaps your logic persuaded her after a couple of decades? Or maybe she was just teaching you kids how to be responsible and do chores . . . .

  2. We always had to dry the dishes and put them away too. I just let mine air dry now because I don't have a dish washer. I am the dish washer.

  5. The best reason I can think of for not air drying them is in case bacteria are attracted to the water, maybe?

  7. With my mom it was always, "Don't put away the iron while it's hot, you'll burn the whole house down." So she'd make me sit there and wait with it, ten full minutes, just so I could put it away.

But now? ...I just don't iron, period.

  8. At our house my brother and I took turns washing and drying the dishes. I usually washed because he did a terrible job at in, on purpose I believe.

  9. I don't really mind doing dishes. We do have a dishwasher but I hand wash a lot, too. And they all air dry.
