The European adder snake (also known as the European viper) is the only poisonous snake native to Great Britain.

Here in Australia we have the largest collection of deadly snakes in the World - land and sea varieties.
Not advisable to be kept as pets, just in case any readers
have any thoughts on that subject.

    1. Anna - the "pretty print" will not diminish the fatal
side of the bite. Sea snakes are most attractive but if bitten and not treated virtually immediately you are dead within minutes.
Swimming in the tropics in the reefed sea lagoons is fraught with danger - SEA SNAKE Territory!
I know been there and broke all swimming speed records getting away from a most attractive one. We
were staring each other in the face - my sea "Joe Blake" was yellow, white, red and black stripes.
Very pretty and with deadly intent.

  5. So far, I've only seen one snake in the UK and it was a small grass snake. In the US, I saw loads of gopher snakes, garter snakes and racers, plus rattlesnakes and kingsnakes.

  7. Amazing markings - but I will steer clear of an adder should I see one.

  8. The only dangerous snake we have in Finland is also the European viper. I used to meet those at our countryside cottage as a child, but we don't have them in cities like Helsinki. Thank you Adam for stopping by my blog!
