Sad Story: Crazy Aunt

My aunt Denise was the oldest child on my maternal side, and when I was a kid she was one of the more distant of our aunts. It got even worse the older I got, if I saw her today I'd probably wouldn't recognize her. A few years ago her and my mother tried to re-connect, but I honestly believe she is at least a little crazy. She eventually became extremely rude and hateful even to her own family. My mother and her's relationship crumbled and got very bitter. She eventually said she had "forgave her" then mentioned she'd never speak to her again in the same sentence. My mother got upset when I told her that's not what forgiveness is.

  1. I agree with you...that's not what forgiveness is.

  3. There's one in every family. I don't like my sister either. Or the other two siblings for that matter. I guess that makes me the crazy aunt ;)

  4. Well, it happens in the best of families! Siblings almost always fight.

  5. I have a brother that I haven't spoken to in 5 years. He's the crazy one in my family and I just don't need all the drama he brings.

  11. You can pick your friends but you can't "pick" your relatives.
I doubt if any family in the World has not had a family "disruption" of sorts.
It is easier with friends especially as you find that you have similar interests and also can "agree to disagree" on many things, actually the last is the most important, that proves true friendship.
Some of my closest friends and myself can have raging rows
and then pack it all in and go have a beer. Finito - ha ha.

  12. Sounds like the lady has a condition that perhaps she cannot control her actions. Too, there are just simply mean folks.

  13. I agree with Colin and LV...sometimes, it's so much easier to get along with friends than with family..especially distant ones.
and, LV may be right in that it could be a medical or mental thing of which she has no control.
I also agree that because you can forgive someone for something doesn[t mean that you ever have to have contact again...forgive and forget...
