Fact of the Day: Panda Panda

Nobody is certain where the English word for Panda bears come from though it did go through French to get to English. The most likely is from the Nepalese word ponya which was more used to described the raccoon-like red panda animal. The Chinese word for panda is  大熊猫 (Da Xiong Mao) which means "big bear cat".
