Photo: Tired Squirrel at the NC State Zoo

We saw this little squirrel (I almost stepped on him before we saw him) at the NC State Zoo. He was crawling like he was tired or perhaps hurt. He didn't look like he had broken anything, but it was during the time of the solar eclipse, and they did say some animals do act strange during the time.

    1. oh I've seen them passed out on top of our fence when the weather is very hot. Then they seem to be ok eventually.

  2. Just most likely having a well earned rest. If you had got much closer he/she would have been off like a shot.

Squirrels are not native to Australia. They were introduced by the early colonialists.
Strangely the only place I have seen squirrels here are in zoos and they seem to run riot all over the zoo's compound.

  3. I've seen them behave this way when it's really hot. I hope this little one was okay.

  4. I doubt a squirrel would sleep there or even in that position. Doesn't look good for him.

  5. I have never seen one do this before myself.

  6. Hmmmm. He doesnt look well. Perhaps he found a spot to cool his belly.

  7. Never in a million years have I seen a squirrel behave in this manner. Hope he was just resting, and is up and about. Hugs...
