Fact of the Day: Habsburg Castle

One of Europe's most powerful royal families in history (now extinct), the House of Habsburg had obtained its name from Habsburg Castle which is located in Switzerland and built for Count Radbot. His grandson Otto II adopted the name more formally for the family.

    1. Most royal houses don't stay around long mainly because of a lack of wanting to let a female be the head of the house and not have her husband's new family take over.

Like Norman Kings of England eventually lost their male rulers and it went to Empress Matilda, her husband was Plantagenet so they became the new ones. Her son was a descendant of course, but not "Norman". Then they lost theirs to the Tudors, then it went to the Stuarts, then the Hanovers and Queen Victoria then had to use her husbands house which eventually was re-dubbed as Windsor

  5. Interesting. One of my favorite parts about visiting Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna this past summer was learning about the House of Habsburg, especially the empress Maria Theresa.

    1. The House of Hapsburg still technically exists and although no royal household of pre-WW1 exists, the Hapsburg family is involved in the politics of Austria and the EC.
They, JACKIESUE, are very much alive and functioning.

  8. Ahh the Habsburgs who wanted true royal blood so they married within the family creating the famous Habsburg nose and chin which is from all the incestual relationships they had resulting in still births and children being deformed.

    1. actually those are Lorraines claiming to be Habsburgs. The true house ended with Maria Theresa. They are as much Habsburgs as Elizabeth II is a Hanover, Stuart, Tudor, and Plantagenet
