Story: Faux Service Dog

At my work, they allow people to bring pets, however there was one lady recently who brought in her little dog wearing a "service dog" vest. It didn't matter as we allowed all dogs, but it's obviously not a service dog as the dog is just slightly older than being a puppy (and went a little crazy excited after it saw a baby looking at it) and she didn't appear to have any disabilities either.

But I mentioned I put my dog Zelda to sleep last year and she asked if I got a new dog. I told her I didn't get one especially as my house doesn't have a fence and my wife Daisy just isn't much of a pet person. Daisy hated taking my dog outside to do her business, and I doubt she'd be much help with a new dog.
She then told me to reevaluate my marriage to Daisy, because she didn't like animals very much. She also said I had to "be sure" before I ever had kids. You know, Daisy isn't perfect, but it sure is annoying to hear someone badmouth your wife when they themselves are liars and have no shame about it. All these people do is make it harder to believe the real service dogs and the people who need them.

  1. What nerve! People can be perfectly fine parents without being "pet people."

  2. Sometimes people should just keep their opinions to themselves. That certainly wasn't a kind thing to say and it isn't even true!!

  3. Wow! That woman was rude and judgmental. Not every culture has a tradition of dogs as pets for starters, and there are lots of great parents who don't have pets in their homes. I've seen a lot of *wink, wink* service dogs lately, and it often makes me angry. I worry that people gaming the system will make accommodating service dogs less permitted.

  4. Another person that we hope karma will surely whack some sense into her head.

  5. Wow! What a terribly judgmental and obnoxious woman. She should mind her own business. You don't need to have pets to be a good parent.

  6. What nerve! Not everyone has to like animals. As long as they aren't going around being mean to them, who cares what a person's personal preferences are? My mom doesn't like animals either, does that mean I should stop talking to her? Good grief!
