While Western society has progressed greatly in favor of LGBT rights, even so, more than half of LGBT youth in school feel unsafe from their peers because of their orientation.

  1. Not surprising with bullying still as high as ever, if not more so with Farcebook and the like.

  4. That's because kids can be little bastards who bully without shame, conscience or remorse.

  5. Awful. And very sad. These kids should not be feeling that way.

  6. So sad and unfortunately we seem to be heading back to Neanderthal thinking in our understanding and social decency.

  8. Bullying remains a persistent problem in school, for LGBT youth and for other youth. But then we have a president who is a vicious bully.

  9. Are we talking middle and high school youth or college aged youth? I can see middle and high school kids feeling that way since that age group can be ruthless in bullying. My daughter's college though (Purdue) is very accepting of the LGBT community. They even have clubs for them there. I imagine it gets a little easier once you get to college with a larger peer group, more of whom are more open about their sexual orientation than high school students are. Much easier to find a support system then.
