Fact of the Day: Shiny Gold

The main reason gold doesn't tarnish easily is because it doesn't really chemically react with other common elements such as oxygen.

  1. One of the many subjects l took at school was Chemistry..
    And l do remember that..gold is unaffected by air, water,
    alkalis and all acids except aqua regia (a mixture of
    hydrochloric acid and nitric acid) which can dissolve
    gold. Gold does react with halogens. It will, for example,
    react very slowly with chlorine gas at room temperature
    to form gold chloride, AuCl3...
    (Goodness! What a memory this Sicilian has)..HeHe! :).

  5. I always remember the chemical element name for gold (AU) by saying my head, A U (hey you) come back here with my gold watch... lol Helpful in school I suppose.
