Photos: The Famous Hope Diamond

Shortly near the end of our tour of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History I recalled that the Hope Diamond was probably at this museum. I knew it was in the hands of the Smithsonian and sure enough, this one made the most sense to be in. It's hard to miss as it's in its own single case and people flock to it like crazy.
It also rotates around to give everyone a fair view of the gemstone.
Honestly I was a bit disappointed, it's not really that beautiful despite its hype. There were plenty of other gemstones before it that were much more gorgeous.

  1. oh my,, I guess its the dollar value that captivates people because it really isn't that beautiful, a ruby or emerald would be so much more beautiful, well, thats my opinion,, I don't own a diamond.

  2. I've never been big on diamonds but I like sapphires a lot.

  3. I confess to not knowing the Hope Diamond was in the Smithsonian. I thought maybe it was in Paris Hilton's jewel box.

  4. One last comment about the above picture. I love the contrast between the opulent Hope Diamond and the tourist in the T-shirt looking at it through the glass.

  5. It’s still the curse and legend that makes it popular.
