Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex (PS2) Review

Ah Crash Bandicoot everyone's favorite series they totally ignored and left behind after the PS2 came out. Why did Crash getting shunned by gamers? Well it still sold well enough, but the general population of hardcore gamers opted for Jak and Daxter or Ratchet and Clank than Crash's outings. 
It plays pretty much the same as the PS1 games. Perhaps even a little too similar. Though I admit I do like the game's variety of gameplay. It's never just plain platforming for too long. The game has a bunch of different gameplay styles from airships to mine-carts to keep you entertained. 
Wrath of Cortex was also the first main Crash game not to be developed by the original Naughty Dog team who later on went to make the Jak games. Even though I only played the 1st game, there is an obvious drop in quality after you start playing it a bit. Even though the game is playable and enjoyable sometimes, the game's most exciting moments seem a bit bland and rushed. 
There's also a lot of frustration I had with the difficulty too. It seems way too unbalanced. Even though the game hands out extra lives like candy, they never give you enough power-ups to take more than 1 hit of damage. So if you misjudge an enemy or forget to dodge a TNT box then you will die again and again.
