Fact of the Day: Ancient Sheep

Sheep were one of the first animals that man ever domesticated. Which happened in central Asia in about 10,000 BC. It took roughly 6,500 years later for man to learn how to spin wool.

It's not the dogs (wolves, coyotes, salvage dogs .... ) that the men domesticated first ? very surprising !

i am currently reading 1493, which talks about the last 500 years of human history, and I think they mention something about domesticated animals. Where do you get random facts like this?

That's interesting. Such a long time before man even knew that the wool could be spun.

various places I suppose. My endless supply comes from the fact that most of anything has surprises about it. Do a little research on one subject and you'd be amaze what you'd find.

"one of the first" not the first. Dogs are generally the one animal most biologists and historians agree on.

So the sheep learned faster than man, interesting haha

The thought of sheep being wild and perhaps even untameable sounds funny to me. I wonder what sheep acted like pre-domestication.

Aaaaw...look how cute they are:P

They look so gentle. I can't imagine how wild they'd be before they were domesticated. Sure took man a long time to get to the wool part.

do you think this means humans are stupid?
