While known in the Western world as Taiwan, the official name of the country is the Republic of China. The island nation split from the mainland after communist forces took over the government in 1949.
Taiwanese is a real language along with a few other native ones. The government that once ruled an early 20th century china just "borrowed" the island so to speak.

I consider it a Chinese territory.
that is quite a history
Still like calling it Taiwan better.
So they don't speak Taiwanese?
Do they still all look the same?
Made in Taiwan sounds better than Made in the Republic of China.
They speak the same language, but write differently.
They both also consider themselves the "real" China and when they make "passports" they consider the other a territory instead of another country.
