Fact of the Day: Eiffel Fair

While the Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous spots in Paris and France, it was originally the entrance arch for the 1889's World's Fair. The Fair itself was also a celebration for the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.

  6. it's always been a strange structure. Don't think people would nowadays allow for such a huge metal piece to be erected in the middle of any big city.

  15. When I used to give tours of my ship (an aircraft carrier) our visitors were always amazed when I told them that, if we stood the ship on its end, it would be as tall as the Eiffel Tower.
Funny, nobody ever mentioned about all the people and planes which would fall off.
