Spider-Man: The Animated Series Season 1 Review

The Spider-Man cartoon from the 90's was one of my favorite shows as a kid. It was also probably why my favorite super-hero is Spider-Man. It's been years since I've watched it, and since it was on Netflix Instant I decided to see it all over again.
As a kid I doubt I saw the first episode on it's very first day, and it was rather strange (but in a way kinda cool) that they left an origins story out of the picture. From the start, Peter Parker is already Spider-Man and he must stop Dr. Curt Connors who is now transformed into the Lizard.
Plenty of new villains follow like Dr. Octopus, Scorpion, Hobgoblin, Mysterio, Kingpin, and many more. They also quickly introduce the alien symbiote who bonds with Spider-Man. After realizing the symbiote's evil nature, Peter Parker separates from it and it finds a new host Eddie Brock and forms the super-villain Venom. The epic battle between Spider-Man and Venom would seem like a good ending but the last episode is rather lame episode featuring Chameleon.
But overall I still enjoyed it almost as much as I did as a kid. I did notice that Spider-Man is far weaker than I remembered, and wins his fights with sometimes sheer luck. But I guess that's expected with the early beginnings of all super-hero tales.

This, X-men TAS and Gargoyles were my top ones. But the only reason spiderman is weaker is because Fox kids would not allow him to punch/kick actual people. He was only allowed to do that with robots.

And yeah liked how they did the origin too, not bothering with it until down the road

I used to watch a Spiderman cartoon show sometimes, but I think the one I watch was from the early 80s.

You and my son have very similar tastes. In fact, he and I used to watch this cartoon when he was young and I recognize all those fun characters. Great review!

I loved that cartoon. I remember Mary Jane getting sucked into a black hole or something and lost forever, I think that might be one of the last episodes. I might jump on Netflix and watch it again.
