Fact of the Day: Harmony Town

The capital of New Hampshire, Concord was originally known as Rumford. It was later renamed Concord following a bitter dispute with the nearby town of Bow. It was renamed by Governor Benning Wentworth.  The new name was to recognize the new concord or harmony between the two towns.

At least harmony was reached between the two towns.

I wouldn't mind if my town had connections with rum :)

Did the "rum" in "Rumford" have anything to do with the dispute?

And I though it had something to do with grapes!

no the name comes from a town founder with the last name. The dispute was over the border.
