Fact of the Day: Uncle Sam and Aunt Columbia

While Uncle Sam is the most famous personification of the United States, the female counterpart of Sam is Columbia. Columbia's name is inspired by Christopher Columbus, and she herself was the namesake of the District of Columbia. Better known as Washington D.C., the nation's capital.
