Fact of the Day: Royal Name

When her father King George VI died in 1952, like all British monarchs Princess Elizabeth was given the chance to choose a regnal name. While her father was known originally as Prince Albert, she chose to remain Elizabeth "of course".

Nice trivia...
Queen Elizabeth can choose to change her name
and she chose to remain Elizabeth despite so many Queen Elizabeth already.

Never mind, she's just a queen, nothing special.

Why change

I would like to think I would keep my name but King Keith doesn't really have a good ring to it

Elizabeth is a nice name. No need to change it.

Makes sense. Some of these old traditions were plain daft!

English royals have the most boring of names, that's for sure :) I mean they've just gave a tiny baby George as a name......

interesting tradition :)

That's cuz each one of those Royals has a string of given names.

I think she chose wisely because her predecedor Elisabeth I was a very important queen. Kisses:)

I agree with Dezzy about the boring names. George? For real?

well all those were queen consorts, wives of ruling kings (her mother being one) throughout the ages. Except Elizabeth I of Shakespeare's day. She's a ruling queen (though with no real power) so she's Elizabeth II.

Is that Elizabeth with Richard Nixon? So funny! I seriously contemplated dumping "Myrtle" when I became an American citizen, but then I didn't want to deal with all the paperwork! The person who typed up my name on my Naturalization certificate left out "Louise" ~ my citizenship ceremony was a nightmare which lasted until Immigration got the mistake fixed. Thank God my husband is an immigration officer, otherwise I might have lost "Louise" and just been "Myrtle" forever!
