The capital of Mississippi, Jackson is named after the then-General Andrew Jackson. It was named to honor his victory at the Battle of New Orleans. Andrew Jackson would later become President of the United States.
Did you know that The War of 1812 was over when The battle of New Orleans was fought? News traveled so slowly back then that the battle was fought anyway.
