Fact of the Day: Independence Monday

In 1779 July 4th fell on a Sunday, so it was celebrated the next day on Monday instead.

I guess this is the precedent that allowed us to stop celebrating George Washington and Lincoln's birthdays on their actual dates.

In 1779 they still took the Sabbath Day seriously as a day of rest. Happy 4th of July to you!

Sometimes when Halloween falls on a Notre Dame football day here in town, we celebrate it a day later, or even the weekend before.
