I remember many years ago on Cartoon Network's Toonami, I used to watch a lot of anime. Nowadays I haven't watched too much of it. Noragami is actually a fairly recently anime, so to make it to the United States so soon is quite rare. It took popular anime shows like Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon forever to reach America.
Noragami means "stray god" in Japanese, as the main protagonist Yato is a minor deity that almost nobody knows about. He doesn't have a shrine in his honor, but he dreams of being a god with many worshipers. He crosses paths with a girl name Hiyori, who can actually see him. Due to following Yato, she dies in an automobile accident. Yato however saves her life, and she wakes up and recovers quite quickly.
Since she had "died" she becomes a half-phantom. She often leaves her physical body by accident and with a cat-like ghost tail is able to have some powers she never had before. Hiyori learns that there are many gods and phantoms out there. She helps Yato in his quest to be a better god, and to save other people.
Overall Noragami isn't as good as I expected. It's somewhat funny, and the fighting scenes are mildly cool. However it doesn't come close to some of my favorite anime shows. It also apparently might not get a second season, so if you want to know what happens next, then you might not get to. At least it doesn't end on a cliff-hanger.
