Fact of the Day: Carbon

Carbon was one of the earliest discovered elements, and it get its name for the Latin word Carbo which means "coal". As there is quite a bit of carbon in coal.

I have a funny story. When I lived in West virginia for a year I saw mothers who let their babies chew on coal as a teething reliever. Weirdest thing I've ever seen.

My parents used to coal for heating when I was a kid... nasty stuff gets on everything.
