Things I Hate: How Southerners Treat Northerners in America

I've always been a rather liberal and urban person, but since I was born and raised in South Carolina I have known people who are very southern. Like anywhere in America, we have a few people around here that have lived in the Northeast. Some people joke about it, but I can't stand when other southerners call Northerners "yankee" with hatred. Guess what?  The Civil War is over and done with, get over it!

Some people, I won't name names, are still fighting the Civil War.

Some people like to remain being idiots. I hear them say, "The South's gonna do it again." and I say, "What? Lose?" (smile)

Like people hear my name and think automatically I must be a redneck. I've got nightmare stories! I was raised inner city. I completely lost it when my parents moved to the country. (I was 14 and motown sound!)

The song, "Dixie" was written by 5 freed black slaves who founded an area called, Dixieland, New York. Later some guy stole the song. I have proof of the citation from an older Wikipedia source, and from World Book Encyclopedia. Try telling southern people that!(smile, again.)

At the end of the day we're all just people, aren't we?

It's awful this still happens.

As long as humans live and breathe, they will always find something negative to say about each other. Just gotta let it roll of your back. Or give them a good old punch in the mouth.

How true that really is. Fortunately (or unfortunately), there are ignorant knuckleheads all over.
I know that when my Alabama sister-in-law calls me a "Yankee carpetbagger" when I visit, she does it with love.
I hope.

LOL it's amazing how people still hold such resentment toward the north even 150 years later. Talk about a grudge!

That happened to me in the fourth grade. I moved from Maryland to Tennessee, and my classmates wanted to battle.

Well...shoot....I'm a southerner and I'm not sure people refer to YANKEES as bad, exactly....just different, I think. We even eat differently, ya know. Some of my best friends are from the North and I love 'em to pieces.

How did you get to be liberal when you grew up in South Carolina? You have my respect and admiration.
