A container of ice-cream containing three flavors of ice cream (vanilla, strawberry, chocolate) is commonly known as Neapolitan ice cream. It got its name in the 19th century, as it was believed it had originated in Naples, Italy.
Oh I forgot - if you really love ice-cream - then try the varieties in Tuscany - eg:Florence. Notice the amount of ice-cream that is consumed in the great movie - "Under the Tuscan Sun". Colin
Interesting (probably not).....in the book I'm writing, I talk about a port visit to Naples. And the kickbacks city fathers got from Black Market Neapolitan ice cream manufacturing and waste managment. As far as I know, this is not true.
Oh, and when we were little Penwassers... When Mal made the mistake of bringing Neapolitan ice cream home, the chocolate was the first to go. Then, grudgingly, strawberry. Then, we threw it away. Nobody wanted to eat vanilla with freezer burn, after all.
My parents bought this to try and please everyone and prevent fights, but nobody really liked it because all three flavors tasted mediocre. Of course they were probably buying cheap ice cream.
There's an Italian restaurant in Nashville called The Old Spaghetti Factory. We always loved their spumoni. I hadn't been for about a decade and we took some friends. I was talking and talking about how great the spumoni was but when they brought it by at the end of the meal, they'd switched to Neapolitan. VERY disappointing. Nothing against Neapolitan, but it's no spumoni!
Neopolitan used to be my favorite until I switched over to mint chocolate chip. People might not have been happy with me because I'd dig out more from the chocolate than the vanilla.

That is quite correct. The Italians make excellent ice-cream.
Cheers

Hubby likes to get this but I only eat the chocolate.
But, it tastes so good.
That's interesting...I like vanilla and chocolate...yesterday I had vanilla with chocolate chip and coconut combined, was lovely.
Not gonna lie...I hate Neapolitan. I think ice creams should only have one flavour! :P
The chocolate and vanilla are the first to disappear in our house.
Never even knew there was a such a thing
That used to be my favourite when I was a kid.
Meanwhile, I'm a spoiled brat when it comes to ice cream. No toppings? No mix ins? No sauce? Booooring.
I remember loving this as a kid, it has been around for a long time.
I used to love that as a kid! xo Diana
I don´t like this type of ice cream because I don´t like the combination of flavours. Kisses:)

Funny how different houses have different ones go first.
I used to hate it because I only like one flavor at a time. Now, it's kind of grown on me as an adult.
