Fact of the Day: Hawaiian Princess Victoria

During the time of the Hawaiian monarchy, there was a crown princess named Victoria Kamamalu. The reason she had a English name like Victoria was because of the Hawaiian monarchy's close friendship to the British monarchy.

The state of Hawaii's flag still contains a small Union Jack, doesn't it? The only US state flag to do so.

Hawaii was stolen from the Hawaiian people by the American sugar barons, who wanted the islands for commercial purposes. Hawaii has a legitimate argument for succession since their entry into the Union was hardly voluntary.

I'm sad to say that a few states could also make that claim.

What a beautiful woman.

Captain Cook "discovered" the islands. I think they were called the "Sandwich Islands" at the time...? Which explains that whole English thing.
History without a net (i.e., Google).

Deleted for grammatical error.

Cook landed a couple of times on the
"Sandwich Islands". He eventually was killed
there on a discovery voyage in 1779.
Nine years after he claimed Australia for
"Pommy-Land{ (England).

The last monarch of Hawaii was Queen Liliuokalani,
overthrown in 1893.

The ignorance of some of the blog commentators on this
blog is mind-blowing, but then a recent "would be" VP
of "Moose fame" etc, didn't even know that Hawaii was
a state of the Union!!
What a "tea party" it would have been with a victory.
We'd all be blown up by now!
