Fact of the Day: Bad Tomato

Tomatoes were once called a "poison apple" because European aristocrats had died eating them. Except it was really the plates they dined on that killed them. They were often made of lead which the tomato often absorbed and thus caused lead poisoning.

wow - like some of the others I had heard that they were thought to be poisonous but had never heard that it was because of the lead! That is interesting!
