Fact of the Day: King Italy

Between the 6th and 19th century, many monarchs had claimed the title of King of Italy, but the first king of a truly united Italy was Victor Emmanuel II who was King of Sardinia before ascending the better throne. Because of this Italians consider him the Father of the Fatherland.

He may have united Italy but he was a randy fellow.
8 legitimate kids and then quite a few more with his many mistresses.
I doubt if Trump or Cruz would have approved of his philandering ways.
Sardinia and sardines in cans and his numerous romps in the hay would make quite an amusing "Sit-Com" for TV.
Would get an X rating for sure.

His monument in Rome is referred to as the wedding cake.

Nice 'stache!

Good one Stephen, but it is a most impressive "wedding cake".
Quite an art of nervous control for the pedestrian to get across the huge road around it to get to the monument without being hit by those infamous Italian drivers.
I was told be locals, just don't stop, keep walking and they will miss you. Not good for one's nerves!!!

Anyhow of the 4 so called 'fathers of the Italian fatherland", I believe Guiseppe Garibaldi was the most prominent.

I was also about to comment that I was wondering how he got his mustache to do that.

Probably careful combing and grooming by his numerous
lovers (mistresses) - ha ha!
