Fact of the Day: Ural Mountains

Unlike other continents, there is no real major ocean or sea barrier between Europe and Asia. The only real "barrier" between Europe and Asia is the Ural Mountains and the Caucasus mountains. The Ural Mountains are located in Russia.

I have been told by lucky friends that to see the Urals is experience one of the wonders of the World.
The "Trans Siberian" express from Vladivostok to St. Petersburg is a train journey (these days) that is one
of the best in the World.
Unfortunately it is NOT cheap.

There was a time when we were taught it was one big continent called Eurasia. But now we're back to calling it two continents.

That is interesting. I like learning about geography.

In Australia schools, Europe and Asia were NEVER lumped together as EURASIA ?????
That is a new one for me and I did Geography Honours at College - my favourite subject with History (Ancient and Modern - the modern here being from the advent of Napoleon).
