Fact of the Day: Hattie Caraway

When Senator Thaddues Caraway died in office, his wife Hattie Caraway was appointed to replace him. She won an election which gave her the seat on her own merit. Thus becoming the first woman to be elected to a full-term as a United States Senator.

Someone always has to be first. Too bad it took the death of her husband to get her into the Senate.
