Fact of the Day: Saint Bernard

St. Bernard dogs were named after the Saint Bernard passes which are routes in the alps in Switzerland, France, and Italy. They were bred to be rescue dogs in the area. Before the name was official they were also called saint dogs, barry dogs, and noble steeds.

I've always wanted to have a Saint Bernard. Such a great family dog.

As a kid, I remember reading a book about St. Bernards digging people out of avalanches in Switzerland.

Never knew that. They are great dogs indeed.

Love these dogs, except for the excessive drooling characteristic of the breed.
