Fact of the Day: Vienna

The English name for the Austrian city Vienna most likely comes from either the Italian or French name for Vienna. The German (which Austrians speak) word for Vienna is Wien.

In German, W is pronounced like V, I believe, so it amounts to the same thing essentially.

Visited Vienna for the first time last year. A beautiful city.

Vienna (Wein) is marvellous. The food sublime - you won't get any junk
food there. It is frowned upon and rightly so. The "Sacher" cakes
are out of this world, so delightfully wickedly rich.
No wonder the Waltz kings immortalised the city with their magical
music.
The city buzzes with sights to see. The Spanish Riding school, the
Opera House, Stephandom, and the parks.........makes you think
you are on another planet.
