George Washington had a few pets, among them was a greyhound named Cornwallis after his old military rival/enemy General Cornwallis.

Guess he wanted to always stay on his guard

Isn't it kind of odd to name a pet after your enemy? You'd be reminded of him every time you called your dog.

I've heard that greyhounds are great dogs.

That's a very 'original' name :)

George obviously had quite a sense of humour.
Lord Cornwallis was not lean like a greyhound, more like
a far too well fed - Labrador or Great Dane.
