Photo: Red Panda in Atlanta Zoo

We came across a red panda, which I had to inform Daisy was not related to what we call "real" pandas. Unfortunately you could barely see him as his back was in front of us as he was sleeping.

Aloha Daisy!

They really don't look all that like the common black and white panda which we all love so much.
They inhabit the Himalayas and South Western China and are known as the "Lesser Panda" - "The Red Bear Cat" - or "The Red Cat Bear".

They certainly would have been very hard to see in that foliage of the zoo. I think you were fortunate to have got a glimpse of one of them.

The red pandas in our zoo were the same! Couldn't see them too well coz they were sleeping in a far corner. What's up with these cuties?!?!?

He just about blended in, you did good by spotting him.

Well, they're good at hiding, anyway.

That's pretty cool!

I was really excited to see them in Toronto. They enclosure there allows you to see them really well, so much so we were only a few feet away from one as he came walking by at one point. They really are a beautiful species.

I hate it when zoo animals won't cooperate. But I guess I wouldn't either if I were caged.
