Fact of the Day: Philippine-American War

As a result of the Spanish-American War, Spain lost control over the Philippines. Native Filipinos tried to establish a new republic but America defeated them in the Philippine–American War. The Philippines would remain a territory of the United States until 1946.

I was born in the Philippines and still remember as a kid learning about this part of our History class. Man...the colonial mentality of the country I think will always be there just because of everything it went through.

Yes, this was a time when America was competing with other countries to build an overseas empire.
