Fact of the Day: Hindi Turkey
In Turkish, the word for the bird turkey is a hindi.
When I was little I thought turkeys came from Turkey, not realizing that our turkeys were North American in origin. But when you trace the origin of the bird's name, it all makes sense. It's funny to think of such fierce people as the Turks at the same time as our modern farmed turkeys.
Maybe the turkeys survive through thanksgiving that way
