Fact of the Day: Kerosene Cough

Before modern medicine, people came up with some rather dangerous methods of remedies. Kerosene was a key ingredient to many of these, including a coughing remedy.

How true- I'm a family researcher and I have found some pretty sketchy "home grown" cure-alls for what ails ya. Heroin being one! Historical newspapers are full of ads for these crazy meds.

My grandmother used to wrap a kerosene soaked cloth around my mother's neck to 'draw the cold out'. Crazy.
