Fact of the Day: Mister Fred Rogers

Fred Rogers started his show Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood mainly because he saw what was on the air as "children's television" and he didn't like much of what he saw.

I grew up watching Mr. Rogers. He was and still is a calming voice in a sometimes crazy world.

He was the commencement speaker when my sister graduated from college in the late 1980s. He actually got all the graduates to sing "Won't You Be My Neighbor?".

The other commencement speaker was William F. Buckley. The college kids listened politely, but he was no where near as popular as Rogers.

He was a truly incredible human being. I wish we had more Mr. Rogers in this world.
